What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a special kind of dentistry involving the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities.
The technical term for crooked, crowded, or protruding teeth is "malocclusion," which means "bad bite." The practice of orthodontics
requires special skill and knowledge in the design, application, and control of corrective appliances to treat and correct these
problems. Orthodontists are dentists who have completed at least two years of specialized training beyond dental school that
qualifies them to effectively treat the full range of problems that might be presented to them.
Who Should Visit the Orthodontist?
An orthodontic screening examination is recommended by the age of seven, but we are happy to see patients of any age. Your general
dentist would normally recognize any potential problems and recommend an orthodontic evaluation; however, you do not need a referral
in order to make an appointment at our office. Your first visit at our office is designed to address any questions or concerns you might have:
- Is there a problem that would benefit from orthodontic treatment?
- What is the best treatment to correct the problem?
- What is the estimated length of treatment?
- When is the best time to begin treatment?
- What are the costs of orthodontic treatment, and what financial arrangements are available?
